Triodos Bank

Deanery Rd, Bristol BS1 5AS, UK – 0330 355 0355

I'm sure I don't have enough money to really make any impact by using an ethical bank like Triodos, but their banking services are good enough to warrant using regardless. Current account app is very reliable and easy to use. Online banking is very comprehensive. There are lots of little things, like how the account handles a low balance and sends alerts, that are better implemented than some other big banks. I have no reservations about this company.

Where you're money is really matters and with Triodos I have the confidence of saying it is going where it is doing the best it can.

Good bank, nice staff

I had a long wait here once or twice, and once the adviser filled my ISA form in wrong so I had to come back in and do another one. Otherwise pretty good service.

Dental Surgeries

University of Bristol Dental Hospital

Lower Maudlin St, Bristol BS1 2LY, UK – 0117 342 4422

I must say a massive thank you all of the people who looked after my partner on this Wednesday.I don’t remember everyones name but Jaime, the lovely nurse ,the nice dentist lady who was amazing :) also a student who examined at first time him,she was so patient. All I can say you changed his opinion completely about dentist and he does not scares anymore so badly :) Much appreciated!!!

A good place to go if you don't have a dentist or between dentist's and need emergency treatment due to pain. They deal with the pain and do temporary treatment and sometimes follow up appointments. They are student dentist's who are overseen by trained dentist's so you are in safe hands.

Queen Square Dental Clinic

17 Queen Square, Bristol BS1 4NH, UK – 0117 927 2797

I've had a lot of dental work - it only takes one ski in a mouth! Over 40+ years there have been two outstanding dentists - one in La Jolla, California (a lady who's now retired) and the other is Alfonso. 100% recommended. Quick update (April '18): I'd also add Emily the (new to me) dental hygienist - exceptionally skilled. There are many things in life where second best is good enough... not dentistry - pay for excellence every time! The team here are truly exceptional.

I was made to feel so welcome it was as if I'd known these beautiful people for years. Their kind, warm and very calm welcome seems to rub off on you making you feel at ease and not at all nervous . Probably the best dental clinic in the country. I would highly recommend it to anyone A Carruthers

The Redland Road Dental Practice

89A Redland Rd, Bristol BS6 6RD, UK – 0117 924 6070

I would like to highly recommend Redland Road Dental practise, Bristol and dentist Mr Steve Thompson for his compassionate and professional treatment. I couldn't be happier. I am delighted with the superb treatment I've received today and over the past four years from Mr Steve Thompson. A truly excellent and talented dentist. Also Nikki, his excellent and thoughtful technician and assistant. I would also like to highly recommend hygienist Jose Hervas for his gifted and precise hygiene treatment, done with sensitivity and positivity. Thank you very much.

I cannot recommend this dentist highly enough. If 'dentist' and 'enjoy' are ever put into the same sentence, it is this team that can take credit. I have never felt so confident that I am receiving the best treatment available. Highly recommend my dentist, Steve Thompson, and the hygienist, Nikki. Both have brilliant chair side manner and treatment has always been excellent. Don't look any further if you need a dentist you can trust.

Dr Sarah Colthurst

67 Coronation Rd, Bristol BS3 1AS, UK – 0117 966 9724

I'd recommend Dr Hendley and Dr Adams at this surgery. They are both ask questions to help you get to the bottom of the issue and give useful advice about how to proceed, signpost to other services when necessary and give clear information about the symptoms you need to be aware of that may require require further visits. I've felt very safe in their hands and would say they are excellent GPs. I agree with other reviews in some respect and wouldn't recommend every GP at this practice.

Just moved to the area and registered here - very helpful and would recommend them

The Spence Group Practice

43 Nevil Rd, Bristol BS7 9EG, UK – 0117 944 0701

Humm, first impressions not great. This is my first appointment here and the receptionist was free but when i tried to check in she asked me my name and then told me to use the automated check in. I find this a bit peculiar/lazy. Why do people always insist we use the machines that are doing them out of a job. Im very happy to use the computer check in system - at my old surgery I always used it -but that was because there was always a very long que at reception. On the plus side the nurse was nice.

NHS Direct is now NHS 24. Just dial 111 to speak to a professional or click the link below for there self help website. Lots of really useful info but keep clear of heart surgery! If in doubt ask your GP or call 111. Good luck.

St Michael's Hospital

Southwell St, Bristol BS2 8EG, UK – 0117 342 5325

Gave birth here twice. Two very different but complicated births. First time wasn't such a positive experience but the second time there seemed to be alot more support even though it was busier. I was a little disappointed about the lack of information about what happens next once I was on the ward. It all seemed very rushed.

Very impressed with maternity services thare. Staff is friendly and efficient!

Compassionate and caring staff from reception to triage, A&E doctor assessment, porter and radiology staff. Thank you all so much for looking after my husband so well. You are all amazing!!

Church of St Thomas the Martyr

After living in Bristol for 8 years, I discovered this beautiful church yesterday. What a gem!

A wonderful classical building.

St Stephen's Church

21 St Stephen's St, Bristol BS1 1EQ, UK – 0117 927 7977

Loved the church so beautiful and the cafe was nice staff were lovely and very nice food

We got married in St Stephens Church on 5th September 2015. it is the most special church that we've ever been in. Whilst we were required to attend the church for 6 months leading up to the wedding as we didn't live in the parish, we found ourselves visiting more often as we enjoyed it so much. Whilst we always had an underlying belief, we were in no way religious before meeting the Reverend, Lee, at St. Stephens. We were made to feel welcome immediately and with every single service that we attended, found that it left us with profound thoughts after Lee had managed to make the bible relevant and applicable to our modern day lives. It provided a great pillar of strength to me in a tough time in my life and for that I will be forever grateful. The church is beautiful, inside and out, but the real beauty comes from it's congregation, all of whom play a very special part in one of the best communities that I've ever experienced. When it came to the actual service, ALL of our guests said that it was the most touching and personal service that they'd been to. Everybody enjoyed it and said that it was refreshingly relevant. Never preached to, ideas are welcomed but the faith remains an underlying important aspect of every part of each service. I lost count of the number of people who said that they'd go to church more if it was like St Stephens. I cannot recommend the church highly enough. We will continue to visit St Stephens whenever we return to Bristol. It's an incredibly special church and Lee is a very special person. Both will always have a very large place in our hearts.

St Mary Redcliffe Church

The Parish Office, 12 Colston Parade, Redcliffe, Bristol BS1 6RA, UK – 0117 231 0060

The finest parish church in England as the first queen Elizabeth described it...and it really is...it's wonderful gothic perpendicular is really quite something..it was built in a time before cranes and modern building techniques...it was hand built on site..by fellows with incredible skills..and a head for heights It's a lively spiritual tranquil place.. There is a cafe in the crypt and a peice of a railway track stuck into the green at the back...which was blown half a mile from when the Luftwaffe bombed temple nears railway station

Gorgeous gothic church in Redcliffe area, it places nice contrast with modern buildings in the area. Nice place to go visit however it is a bit further from center or triangle but it's nearby to Queen's square and waterside which has lot to offer as well.

Great guys. Great prices.

I have to diagree with the previous review, having used Manor for years a fair price is always paid and always better than anywhere elese i have been. Always so friendly and helpful and can never do enough. Always weighed together and agree it is accurate before agreeing the price.

Give and get free stuff. Here you will find lots of items that people are willing to give away, for FREE! This is instead of taking them to a local landfill site. The aim of this site is to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill (20.9 million tonnes of it last year in the UK) and recycling is great news for the environment.
We all know that we need to recycle more - and this is a great way of doing it.

Local Restaurants & Places to Eat around Bristol

wilks Restaurant

1 - 3 Chandos Rd, Bristol BS6 6PG, UK – 0117 973 7999

Can't fault this place and has just won best restaurant in Bristol, which is thoroughly deserved. Had the tasting menu and the wine flight on my visit and the flavours complemented together really well. Staff were very well informed and explained each course as you went through. The wine waitress was equally as informed on her wines. Love coming to this place and will be back soon

I went to Wilks last night with my parents. The food, as others have said, was excellent - extremely high quality and much care and attention had been paid to each course. However, I can't help but think there are other restaurants in Bristol which I would choose over this one next time I'm looking to celebrate a special occasion. Aside from the eye-watering expense, the service was efficient although quite aloof at times. It's a very formal affair compared to other establishments in Bristol and, for me personally, I missed the more relaxed feel. It really depends on what you like from a restaurant but if you're like me and prefer to be able to hold a conversation slightly louder than a hushed whisper and don't want to feel like you're being given the once-over by fellow patrons, I'd look elsewhere.

Chai Shai

4 Jacob's Wells Rd, Bristol BS8 4NF, UK – 0117 925 0754

Fantastic food, really well made in front of you. A lovely family run restaurant with very friendly atmosphere.

My review two years ago: I dream of Chai Shai food. Love eating here and Farouk and Shilpi are very accommodating and make us feel at home. I gave them 5 Stars. My review now: I left Bristol for a year and when I came back I was excited to take my partner with me, who loves to cook, he was keen to try this restaurant he's never been to before. Sadly we were quite disappointed... All the curries we ordered tasted and looked the same despite the difference in descriptions in the menu. I remember the dishes being very fresh tasting and herby, ingredients were distinctive within the dish. Unfortunately this was no longer the case. Our fish also tasted of chemicals, but this is no fault of the restaurant, but probably the supplier of the frozen fish. The family probably aren't around as much as they used to be, and maybe the quality has slipped slightly.

21 Cotham Rd S, Bristol BS6 5TZ, UK – 0117 329 0990

Sublime tasting menu, full of delicately balanced dishes. The service was attentive, if a little rushed. The wine flight complimented the menu perfectly. Black pepper macaroon with duck liver parfait was incredible, as was the croissant mousse in one of the desserts.

A fantastic dining experience. Bulrush were very accommodating of mine and my partners dietary needs (both of us being Vegan) as well as maintaining an excellent standard of food. The service was phenomenal, the best I have ever experienced. Our waiter Oscar was personable, informative and enthusiastic whilst maintaining an air of professionalism at all times. All in all, we had an amazing culinary experience, sampling the very best cuisine Bristol has to offer. I will highly recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone. Thank you again Bulrush.

Nursery and Preschools

Lantern Preschool

Redland Church Hall,, Redland Green Rd, Bristol BS6 6YE, UK – 0117 946 4699

An amazing pre-school which my daughters have really benefitted from attending - it really helps prepare children of reception year. Very experienced, caring staff. The site was recently refurbished both indoors and out. I highly recommend Lantern Preschool!

My daughter loved the setting and staff here. Having struggled to find a good quality preschool Lantern surpassed all my estimations.

Mama Bear's Day Nursery and Pre-school, Oakfield Road, Clifton

17 Oakfield Rd, Bristol BS8 2AW, UK – 0117 974 2929

Our little boy attends Mama Bears Oakfield Road and we couldn't be happier with this nursery. The team are fantastic, very caring and nurturing, imaginative and huge fans of messy play (which is great as a parent who does not enjoy messy play at home). The nursery offers wonderful outdoor space which they use all year round, a ball pool room, sensory spaces as well as individual rooms for different age groups. Our son has flourished in this environment and loves being part of this nursery community.

My daughter likes a lot this place because she met quite a lot new friends. The staff is polite and gentle with the kids and during the week I feel safe about my little princess. When I pick her after work she has hard time leaving. And if you could have seen her in the beginning - she was crying not to leave her there! Definitely a child friendly place.

Bristol Steiner School

Redland Hill House, Redland Hill, Bristol BS6 6UX, UK – 0117 933 9990

Hello Everyone at Bristol Steiner School. I am annexed to Rudolf Steiner and how he indicated awareness of the spiritual physical and natural technology. The Consciousness of the Human Soul and the Christ Mysteries. I was a pupil at St Christopher's School back in the 1970s which I found wonderful and I loved St Christopher's School. Rudolf Steiner pointed out the need for the renewal in education science art medicine and religion. I am so arrested by his lectures and the Waldorf teaching. Rudolf Steiner is in my gene and so is St Christopher's School or it was when it was Rudolf Steiner Principles based. Stephen Blasby

This is a lovely school, with wonderful long standing teachers who are dedicated to delivering a Steiner curriculum in a close nurturing environment. Three of my children have attended here and have been very happy and well educated. Two of my other children have been to 'outstanding 'ofsted graded mainstream schools and their handwriting and their depth of understanding of subject matters have never been as great as my children who attended Bristol Steiner school.

Badminton School

Westbury Rd, Bristol BS9 3BA, UK – 0117 905 5200

Badminton is a thriving global community situated in the heart of Bristol. It has a warm and homely atmosphere with excellent teachers who nurture and inspire the pupils. As well as achieving outstanding exam results year upon year, Badminton is strong in many other areas such as the arts and sports. The grounds are beautiful and leafy, especially in the spring when the blossom trees are in full bloom. Badminton is home to girls from all over the world, so is a vibrant melting pot of different cultures. Many students also come from in and around Bristol. Meeting people from around the world can give you experiences and take you places that you would never experience otherwise. I would absolutely recommend Badminton to any girl who wishes to flourish in life.

I’m here for three weeks and it’s super fun,the Teacher are very good and funny.I recommend this School very much
